poetry meaning

A lot of my poetry follows childhood themes and memories that I experienced. They are personal and often act as coping mechanisms or wishful thinking from the perspective of a younger me. Continuing the theme of childhood prevalent in this module, I wrote about the feeling of being punished for innocent mistakes I made as a child, using cracks on the ground as a metaphor for bad luck coming your way, as that was one of the first things I remembered about childhood ‘rules’ and not stepping on cracks. the poem continues on to describe the loss of innocence, betrayal and a longing for acceptance from someone high above, perhaps a god, perhaps a shooting star, any omnipotent being or thing that a child could find solace in, in this case being the moon.
